Adoption Update

So many of you have asked recently “how’s the adoption going?” We only have a brief update but we are encouraged seeing all the ways God is at work! 

We are still waiting for CARA approval which is the approval from India’s adoption governing body that will allow us to be matched with a child. We’ve been waiting a little over 14 weeks for this approval. It has become more difficult to patiently wait, and at the same time we have seen some cool ways God is at work even as we wait!

We received I-800a approval which is initial approval from the U.S. government to adopt. This was exciting as it involved a quick trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for very expensive fingerprinting! It felt great to check this portion off the list by getting the pre-approval letter in the mail!

While we’ve been waiting to get CARA approval we’ve been working hard filling out adoption grant applications! This involves many nights of getting paperwork together, writing essays, being interviewed, getting references and more waiting to hear back from each grant. But all the time and work we put into this has been paying off! We’ve received two generous grants so far! We are so incredibly thankful for God’s provision even as we wait! 

We know that God is at work preparing our hearts and our little ones heart for adoption in this waiting period. Not only that, but He is providing financial provision in just His timing through various people, organizations and even unexpected checks. Most importantly, He is teaching us to trust Him fully. We are being reminded each day that He is sovereignly orchestrating each moment of this process for our good and for His glory! 

For those of you asking how you can pray... here are a few specific prayer requests we have:

  1. Please pray for continued financial provision. Adoption is expensive but God has provided and we know He will continue to! Praise for receiving two generous grants... including a matching grant (an update on that will hopefully come soon!)
  2. Please pray for patience for us as we wait to receive CARA approval... we are growing a bit more impatient but we truly want to glorify God in this waiting period!
  3. Prayers for a sweet little boy in India who needs a family. We have hesitated to give much information out regarding this, but we are praying for a sweet little 5 year old boy and would ask for you to pray for him as well!

We have some very exciting news! On June 25, after 11 months and 1 week of waiting, we got the call that we had CARA approval! That might not sound so exciting, but here is the background for those who don’t know. When we started the adoption process back in November 2018, the timeline from start to finish was around 12-24 months. At that time getting your paperwork approved by India’s adoption authority (CARA) was taking 6-12 weeks and sometimes even shorter. So when we were registered with CARA in July 2019 we assumed we might get approval that fall or at the very latest early winter. A Completed Puzzle and a Big Update!

So much has happened with our adoption process in the last 2 months or so and we are eager to give an update!   First of all, we are so thrilled to share that we completed our puzzle fundraiser!!! This means that we were able to raise all our funds for the home study portion of the process along with our next few fees! We were blown away by the generosity of our friends and family – both in giving financially and in the way so many of you stepped forward and promised to pray for this process and the little one that will be joining our family. What a precious gift! We are so humbled by the outpouring of support and truly cannot say thank you enough. An Unexpected Shower Of Blessing

Due to the business of the past two days, this is the first time we have had the opportunity to write about the events that have happened! On Wednesday, we woke up in Bangalore, packed our bags at our hotel and then ate breakfast . We hopped in a taxi to the airport, about an hour away, to catch our flight to Belagavi, our daughter's hometown. We would be arriving in Belagavi around 3:00 PM, so we wondered if there was any possibility of seeing Keerti that evening. However, we had previously decided it would be best to wait until Thursday, when there was a special placement ceremony scheduled. Our drive to Bangalore airport was beautiful! When we first had arrived in Bangalore, it was night time, so we couldn't see anything! But now, it was wonderful to see more of that portion of India that we were in!  Our flight to Belagavi was on time and relatively uneventful.
